Eleven vying for five Guam FA Executive Committee seats

[January 8, 2019 - Harmon, Guam] A total of 11 candidates from eight member clubs will be vying for five vacant slots on the Guam Football Association Executive Committee, with the election set for the organization’s next Ordinary Congress on Feb. 5.

Of the 11, three are running for re-election: Tina Esteves from Southern Heat, Kun Ho Rhee from Tigers, and Gian Tenorio from Sidekick Soccer Club.

The other eight candidates are from five other member clubs:

• Crushers FC: Michael Bordallo, Anjelica Perez

• GPSI Southern Cobras: Fred Alig

• Bank of Guam Strykers FC: Romy Belmes, Jay Shedd, Robert Torres, Jr.

• Wings FC: Marvin “Ike” Iseke

• Guam Shipyard Wolverines: Joseph Roberto


GFA membership approve new Electoral Code, committee

[December 12, 2018 - Harmon, Guam] The addition of a full Electoral Code into the Guam Football Association Statutes, as well as the selection of four members to the organization’s new Electoral Committee were approved by members at an Extraordinary Congress held Monday evening at GFA.

The membership voted in Jack Chan, Frederick Horecky, Hiro Kurashina, and Jeffrey Larsen as part of GFA’s Electoral Committee, which will act as an independent body empowered to conduct the sport organization’s elections of Executives and Executive Committee members during elective Congress years.

GFA’s next election will take place during the 2019 Ordinary Congress set for February next year. Five seats on the organization’s Executive Committee will be open for candidates.


Guam granted bronze AFC Grassroots Charter membership

[October 15, 2018 - Harmon, Guam] Guam Football Association recently was lauded as one of Asian Football Confederation’s newest AFC Grassroots Charter Members based on initiatives and development strategies in place by the GFA Technical Department.

The announcement of GFA’s membership officially was made Oct. 10 through official communication that included an AFC Declaration of Recognition of Grassroots Charter Bronze Membership Status signed by AFC General Secretary Dato’ Windsor John.


Guam FA embarks on future opportunities, restructure

[March 29, 2018 - Harmon, Guam] All funding received by Guam Football Association through to the end of 2016 have been accounted for and used for intended purposes, as concluded by six different, independent audit reports of the organization, with the final audit officially concluding earlier this month.

Each year, GFA must under undergo an independent audit of its financial statements as mandated by FIFA and AFC, and in addition, an audit of the FIFA and AFC funds it receives. In 2017, the organization went through three additional audits – a FIFA Central Review, an AFC Central Review, and a performance audit by Guam’s Office of Public Accountability (OPA). GFA received a clean audit report of its financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2016 from its external auditors. Recommendations from the audit reports for improvement of GFA’s financial management and governance have already been implemented within GFA’s operating procedures.
