Guam to compete in 2018 Marianas Cup in Saipan

[October 5, 2018 - Harmon, Guam] The Marianas Cup – the annual island derby between Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands – will kick off its 2018 edition Sunday in Saipan at the new NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

The 2018 edition of the tournament will feature a U19 Women’s division and a U17 Boys division, with Sunday’s matches beginning at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.

“For this particular tournament, the main objectives for Guam’s teams are first, to continue to implement Guam’s new playing style with the U17 Boys and U19 Women’s squads training for upcoming AFC tournaments,” said Belinda Wilson, Guam Football Association Technical Director. “Second is to continue to implement Guam’s culture, values, and expectations on and off the pitch, and last, we will also use the tournament as an additional platform to continue refining Guam’s current operating processes.”

Selected to the Guam U19 Women’s National Team for the Marianas Cup are goalkeepers Angelyn Sobrevilla, Kiarra Hutcherson, and Aeryn Anulao, and field players Isabella Bass, Hannah Cruz, Celine Doronila, Samantha Fegurgur, Rylee Guzman, Yae Kawauchi, Sabrina Kenney, Samantha Kenney, Aurianna “Roben” Morellano, Lauren Phillips, Richelle Ragadio, Ava Ramos, Shyann Roberto, Abigail San Gil, and Jinae Teria. Traveling with the team are Wilson, Head Coach Maggie Phillips, Assistant Coach Kimberly Sherman, Goalkeeper Coach Ross Awa, Assistant Goalkeeper Coach Chima Mbakwem, and Team Manager Chyna Ramirez.

Representing Guam on the U17 Boys National Team are goalkeepers Alexander Stenson and Allan Aranas and field players Emilio Babauta, Joshua Bamba, Tayler Bonner, Justin Cruz, Kyle Halehale, Micah Hennegan, Mark Iseke, Matthew Iseke, Christian Kido, James Lee, Shaun-Paul Martinez, Morgan McKenna, Sho Meyar, Noah Mueller, Nainoa Norton, and Anthony “Taiga” Simon.

Next for Guam’s U19 Women’s National Team will be the AFC U19 Women’s Championship Qualifier in Kyrgyz Republic later this month. Qualifiers for the AFC U16 Boys Championship and the U19 Boys Championship will be played in 2019.
