BMS Roadrunners win 2019 Sugar and Spice girls festival

[March 4, 2019 - Harmon, Guam] The Vicente S.A. Benavente Middle School Roadrunners captured the 2019 title of the 12th Annual Sugar and Spice Middle School Girls Soccer Festival Sunday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

The Roadrunners defeated last year's champions, the St. John's School Knights 3-0 in the festival's final. The Roadrunners' Cassandra Kido scored a hat trick for her team in the championship match.

GFA Executive Committee member Gian Tenorio, GFA General Secretary Micah Paulino, and GFA Executive Director and Women's Football Director Cheri Stewart awarded the festival's top two teams with trophies and medals.

The annual Sugar and Spice tournament is a grassroots event supported by Japan Football Association and part of Guam Football Association's month-long celebration of AFC Women's Football Day.

Since the festival started in 2008, there have been eight different winning teams:

2008-2009: F.B. Leon Guerrero Hawks

2010: Oceanview Middle School Knights

2011: Vicente S.A. Benavente Middle School Roadrunners

2012: Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic School Phoenix

2013: Agueda I. Johnston Middle School Pirates

2014: Luis P. Untalan Middle School Wildcats

2015-2016: Bishop Baumgartner Memorial Catholic School Obispos

2017-2018: St. John’s School Knights

2019: Vicente S.A. Benavente Middle School Roadrunners
