Heavy Hitters/Nutrition Mission Heat top women's soccer

[November 27, 2018 - Harmon, Guam] Heavy Hitters/Nutrition Mission Heat sit atop of Bud Light Women’s Soccer League Premier Division standings through Week 5 after upending defending champions Lady Crushers FC 5-2 Sunday evening at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

Carmela Tyquiengco and Alexandra Shimasaki led the Heat’s offense with two goals each in the contest. The Heat’s other goal came on a Lady Crushers own goal. Samantha Fegurgur scored both goals for the Lady Crushers.

With the win, the Heat are now 4-1 for the season, while the Lady Crushers drop to 1-4.

In other matches, an 8-1 win by the NAPA Lady Rovers (3-0-1) against the ASC Trust Islanders placed the team in second place in league standings after five weeks. Hannah Netherton led all scorers with four goals and teammate Christiana Joe Quinata finished with a hat trick. Erin Rose Paulino scored the Lady Rovers’ other goal. Jadyn Palomares scored the Islanders’ lone goal in the contest.

The Bank of Guam Strykers hold onto third place in league standings after the team edged Quality Distributors 2-1. Lauren Phillips and Jinae Teria scored for the Lady Strykers in the win and Alisia Barcinas scored Quality’s lone goal.

The Heat’s Alexandra Shimasaki is tied with the Lady Rovers’ Hannah Netherton in the division’s Golden Boot race with five goals each, followed by a trio of players tied for second place with four goals each: Quality’s Paige Surber, the Lady Crushers’ Anjelica Perez, and the Lady Strykers’ Lauren Phillips.

The Lady Strykers goalkeeper Angelyn Sobrevilla leads in the Golden Glove contest with the best goalkeeping statistics. Sobrevilla conceded just two goals in 352 minutes played and also earned two clean sheets.

In the league’s Amateur Division, The Venue Sidekicks defeated the IT&E Lady Bombers 5-2 with one goal each from Yasmeen Lopez, Savanna-Hope Chaco, Veronica Dydasco, Stephanie Bordallo, and Simone Bollinger. Sarah Pak and Megan Oksendahl scored for the Lady Bombers. The Bank of Guam Strykers W2 slipped past Team Mosa’s 2-1 with goals from Tiffany Tallada and Joleen Cruz. Carlie Quinata scored for Team Mosa’s.

The University of Guam Lady Tritons defeated The Venue Slay 2-0 with both goals from Ariya Cruz to stay undefeated in the division.

Cruz leads the division’s Golden Boot race with eight in five matches and teammate Elisha Benavente is next in the race with seven. UOG goalkeeper Tiffanie Rodrigues leads the Golden Glove race, conceding zero goals in 315 minutes played, earning three clean sheets, according to league statistics provided by the GFA Competitions Department.

The Bud Light Women’s Soccer League takes a break through to Jan. 20 next year as the EAFF E-1 Football Championship Round 2 Guam women’s competition takes center stage at GFA beginning Saturday. The flagship tournament of the East Asian region will feature visiting teams from China P.R., Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, and Mongolia, as well as VIPs and officials from all over Asia, including Japan, Korea Republic, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the United States.
