Fall 2017 Triple J youth soccer league kicks off first week

[September 17, 2017 - Harmon, Guam] Not even a morning rain shower could dampen the spirit of about 1,000 youth soccer players on opening day of the Triple J Auto Group Robbie Webber Youth Soccer League at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

Over 100 teams in the U6 to U15 age divisions played their league openers Saturday and teams in the U18 division will begin play Sept. 23.

“I think my first game this season was exciting,” said Isaiah Ooka, who plays for the Sidekick SC in the U10 division, after the team’s match against the Matson Southern Heat. “It was exciting because I didn’t know I would score a goal but I got one.


Elite youth league players to be scouted for all-star team

[September 2, 2017 - Harmon, Guam] Notable performances in Aloha Maid Minetgot Cup Elite Youth League U18 division matches may lead to a call up to represent Guam as part of a U18 All-Star team in next month’s Marianas Cup tournament.

In partnership with the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association, GFA will play host to this year’s tournament, which will feature two matches: Guam U18 Boys All-Star Team against the NMI U18 Boys national team and the Masakåda, Guam Women’s National Team, against the NMI Women’s National Team. Both matches will be played on Sunday, Oct. 8, with the boys’ match kicking off at 4 p.m. and the women’s match set for a 7 p.m. kick off time.

“Particularly for the Guam U18 Boys All-Star team that we will be assembling for the tournament, I’ve tasked GFA’s coaching staff to closely watch U18 division matches in the Minetgot Cup and assess all players in the league for a call up to the team,” said Belinda Wilson, GFA Technical Director.


Wings begin 2017 U18 elite soccer Fall season with win

[August 27, 2017 - Harmon, Guam] Spring 2017 U18 division runner-up Wings Red began its Fall season bid with a 5-2 win over the Tigers in Week 2 play of the Aloha Maid Minetgot Cup Elite Youth Soccer League Saturday night at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

Although the Tigers outscored their opponent 2-1 in the second half, the team could not overcome a 4-0 halftime deficit.

Takumi Odell led the Wings with two goals and teammates Kyle Halehale, Tyler Presto, and John Anthony Cruz also scored in the win. Donovan Ybanez scored both goals for the Tigers.

In the other U18 match played Saturday night, the ASC Trust Islanders won their second-straight match in their maiden season in the elite league, defeating defending champions Quality Distributors 3-1.


Islanders win battle of U18 elite league 2017 debutants

[August 25, 2017 - Harmon, Guam] The ASC Trust Islanders won the battle of U18 division debutants of the 2017 Aloha Maid Minetgot Cup Elite Youth League Fall season Thursday evening at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

Facing a 1-0 deficit just before the 30-minute mark, the Islanders turned up the intensity to defeat the Tigers 6-1 in both teams’ first-ever match in the Minetgot Cup’s U18 division.

Devan Mendiola scored a goal in each of the halves to lead all scorers in the contest. Teammates Nyan Domingo, Noah Duenas, Todd Pangelinan, and Brandon Auayan also scored for the winning team. Seung Min Kim scored the Tigers’ lone goal.


Strykers hand defending champs loss in U18 elite opener

[August 22, 2017 - Harmon, Guam] The Bank of Guam Strykers dealt defending U18 division champions Quality Distributors FC a 5-0 loss to begin its 2017 Fall season bid in the Aloha Maid Minetgot Cup Elite Youth League at the Guam Football Association National Training Center Monday evening.

The Strykers set the tone early on offense, earning two corner kicks in just the first five minutes of play. Despite the constant attack, Quality managed to quell most attempts by the winning team through to the 42nd minute, when Clayton Mitchell buried the first of his three goals in the contest. Teammate Xavier Naputi followed up with another goal that escaped the reach of Quality keeper Taka Ward two minutes later for the 2-0 halftime score.
