SP18 playoff rankings set for women's soccer top flight

[March 8, 2018 - Harmon, Guam] The Bud Light Women’s Soccer League Premier Division (W1) playoffs are set to kick off Sunday with a trio of matches at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

Final playoff rankings were determined by the outcome of Week 7 matches of the league’s regular season played Mar. 4. Ranked on top is the undefeated Personal Finance Center Lady Crushers after cruising to a 6-1 victory over the NAPA Lady Rovers in the teams’ final regular season fixture.

Samantha Fegurgur led all scorers with a pair of goals and teammates Colleen Naden, Skyylerblu Johnson, and Anjelica Perez also scored. The Lady Crushers’ other goal came on a Lady Rovers own goal. Courtney Salgado scored the Lady Rovers’ lone goal in the 88th minute.

The Lady Crushers are undefeated in 25 straight matches dating back to the start of the 2017 Spring season. With the top ranking, the Lady Crushers receive a bye in the first round of playoffs.

The Lady Rovers move down to the No. 5 position with the loss and will face No. 4 Bank of Guam Lady Strykers at 3 p.m. Sunday in the season’s first playoff match. The Lady Strykers edged Guam Shipyard 2-1 in Week 7 play with goals from Alexy Dacanay and Ariya Cruz. Brianne Leon Guerrero scored Guam Shipyard’s lone goal.

Despite the Week 7 loss, Guam Shipyard held on to the No. 2 position in league standings and will play against No. 7 ASC Trust Islanders in Sunday’s late playoff match kicking off at 7 p.m.

The ASC Trust Islanders battled to a 2-2 draw with Heavy Hitters/Nutrition Mission Heat, but finished behind their opponents in league standings based on goal differential. Taryn Rupley and Erlissa Delfin scored for the Islanders and Rhoda Bamba and Mia San Nicolas scored for Heat.

The Heat will play against No. 3 Quality Distributors in the 5 p.m. time slot Sunday.

The winner of the Lady Strykers-Lady Rovers playoff match will play against the Lady Crushers in the semifinals, while the winners of the other two playoff matches will face off in the semifinals.

In the league’s Golden Boot race, 17-year-old Brianne Leon Guerrero finished at the top with 12 goals for the season for Guam Shipyard, followed by April Talledo with eight goals for the Lady Crushers. Quality’s Paige Surber and the Lady Crushers’ Skyylerblu Johnson finished tied for third with seven goals each this season.

In the league’s Golden Glove competition among goalkeepers, the Lady Crushers’ Aeryn Anulao finished first, allowing only seven goals in 540 minutes played for an average of 1.17 goals scored against her, with three clean sheets.
